About Uncle Herb’s Founder Lloyd Stiassny

Lloyd Stiassny came to Alaska in 1979 by way of Stamford, Connecticut.

Following graduation from the University of Connecticut, he traveled West to Colorado, then to Washington State’s Olympic Peninsula, before landing in Anchorage in the summer of 1979.

Shortly after that, he moved to Nome, Alaska, and was employed by the Bering Straights School District, where he learned about the area and made lifelong friends in the surrounding village communities.

This work afforded him great exposure to the Alaskan way of life at a time when the Alaska National Interest Land Conservation Act (ANILCA) was being ushered in.

It jettisoned his professional career to work with Native Corporations throughout Alaska, which included working with many villages and regional groups from across the State.

Working with Dillingham, Marshall, and Port Graham communities were a few of his many highlights.

He entered the Alaskan cannabis industry in 2016, with Uncle Herb’s Arctic Spur launching in November 2017 and the Alaska Herb Garden in July 2018.

Uncle Herbs Homer launched in May 2018, followed by Uncle Herbs Boniface in June 2020.

Donations for Victims of Typhoon Merbok

Please also note, during October, Uncle Herb’s is collecting donations for the Western Alaska communities impacted by Typhoon Merbok.

We’ve set out giving baskets where you can drop off lightly used hats, gloves, mittens, and new socks at any of our locations. For more on how to help, check out this resource from Anchorage Daily News.
